What is a WSIB clearance certificate?
A WSIB clearance certificate is a document from Workplace Safety and Insurance Board confirming an Ontario contractor has met all payroll assessment obligations and its workers are covered by WSIB insurance for workplace injuries.
The WSIB (Workplace Safety and Insurance Board) clearance certificate is proof that a contractor operating in Ontario has fulfilled its financial obligations to the provincial workers' compensation system. When a junk removal company holds this certificate, it means WSIB has verified the business has paid all required assessments based on its payroll, and all workers on that payroll are insured against workplace injury.
Property managers, facility directors, and commercial site supervisors often request this certificate before hiring contractors for hauling work. This is standard practice for liability reasons. If a worker is injured during junk removal and the contractor lacks valid WSIB coverage, the property owner or facility can face serious financial and legal exposure. The certificate proves the risk has been transferred to WSIB, not left on the client.
For commercial junk removal providers, having a current clearance certificate removes a common barrier to winning larger contracts. Many procurement departments will not issue purchase orders without sight of it. The certificate is issued by WSIB upon request when a contractor's account is in good standing and carries no outstanding assessments. It typically needs to be renewed periodically as WSIB tracks ongoing compliance.
